Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0-litre TSI GT
It's come a long way from Plain Jane origins
"Ever since the Scirocco went on sale I've wanted one. I popped to my local Arnold Clark dealership, on the day they went on sale, and came away with a new Renault Megane - either the sales man was very, very good or I was high. The truth is though, at the time of release, I just couldn't afford one. So last year I finally bought one - a stunning Candy White 'rocco with only 30K on the clock, and one previous owner."
What I wish I'd known:
"There have been no surprises with my purchase, up to now I've had a smooth ride with her and still loving every minute!"
Things I love:
"I love my car - there's no other way to put it. I loved her when I first bought her, but since the mods it's taken it to a whole new level. I even get Instagram comments from random people, saying they've seen me on the road and that the car looks awesome. She drives amazingly well too.
Mercedes wheels controversial, even among dubbers
"Some people have asked 'why change a perfectly good car so dramatically' well, my answer to this, it's because I wanted to make her mine - it's just like walking into a dealership and selecting the options you want for your car. I appreciate classics as well as modified cars - my love for cars knows no bounds.
"I love the VW scene too - most are great and would do anything to help a fellow 'dubber' out."
Things I hate:
"I'm really struggling to think of something I hate about my car, but if I had one little niggle it would be how low the metal strips sit for the jack - as you can see the car is lowered, and it is static, and these pieces of metal often catch on speed bumps."
Costs:
"The first thing I did was buy some coilovers, the 80mm drop Ultra Low from H&R, which I fitted myself. I try to do everything I can myself, until something goes horribly wrong and I have to pay someone.
"My colour change was done by Staffordshire Car Painters in Stoke on Trent. They did an awesome job with the car and the subtle changes I asked them to make, such as smoothed rear reflectors, smoothed front number plate recess, smoothed line details in rear bumper and colour-coded side strips all really work.
Wheels sourced in time for Ultimate Dubs show
"What next? Oh, to find the perfect wheel - I always knew I wanted these particular Mercedes S-Class 22-spoke monoblocks, but they're pretty hard to come by. But I managed to find a set a week before the Ultimate Dubs show in March. A wheel choice that most have questioned, and still question, but I have kept the badges on the wheels and on the car to ensure I am not trying to make it something it isn't - I love the wheels and I wanted to go down the OEM-plus route rather than aftermarket."
Where I've been:
"2014 has been a great year for the 'rocco, I introduced her new look at Ultimate Dubs in March, and she went down really well. She will be at Players Classic, Goodwood, VW Days, France in June, and MIVW, Holland, in August. She is my daily and is my only form of transport so she gets about with me quite a bit."
What next?
"I don't plan on selling her for a good while. I still love her and feel that there is more I can do if I wanted more - such as engine modifications and a change of alloy. Maybe even interior changes... I've been thinking about stripping her out and putting RCZ R seats up front."
