At this time of year, a lot of people are departing for their summer break. If not then they probably will be soon. But why leave when there are so many interesting cars to talk about? Make sure there's some internet connection when you go away at least.
Since Monday we've driven the second model in BMW's i electric range, seen a French alternative and lived a life of luxury in a Rolls-Royce. See it all here!
Blue is the colour of new cars this week...
The big story for PH this week has been the UK drive of BMW's
pioneering i8
. It was as desirable and beautifully engineered as expected, but not flawless. The debate is already raging...
Our other significant first drives could hardly be further apart in PH appeal. The fabulous opulence of the Rolls-Royce Wraith was expected but its massive performance came as more of a surprise. There was no such shock with the Lotus Elise S Club Racer; as pure, rewarding and engaging as the Elise has always been but a little more so, it proves what a excellent idea the original concept was.
A fraught affair but great outcome
Last weekend saw the seventh
Le Mans Classic
, with Harris at La Sarthe
racing a D-Type
and Matt in a far less stressful seat off the track. See everything
on video
here also. And if that's not enough motorsport, see the
WSB
Motorsport on Monday
In a strange coincidence, Jaguar Land Rover revealed its latest raft of engine and in car tech just a couple of days after Chris had driven one of Jag's historic greats. There's lots of talk about lasers and projections...
But there's plenty more from a more traditional perspective as well. The DC5 generation of Honda Integra Type R has been celebrated as a PH Hero, a very special Alpina has been found in the classifieds and Peugeot's 2008 DKR looks set to further strengthen its enthusiast reputation.
All colour comments welcome
A busy week for the PH Fleet, with the
C63 507
returning after a paint repair and a
SEAT Leon Cupra
joining the ranks. We've also had another update from our Adrian Flux competition winner Matt Purdon with his
Capri 3.0S
Another fast Ford in this week's Carpool, a Focus RS fanatic restoring his Mk1 to as new condition. He may not want to but Fords are most definitely allowed at the Vauxhall Sunday Service. Honest.
With a lightweight Lotus driven this week, it was a good time to find another stripped out Hethel hero in the classifieds. This Esprit GT3 fitted the bill perfectly. Shed found a humdrum hot hatch and POTW paid tribute to the art of Italian coachbuilding.
- Flat out in a Bentley Continental GT Speed
- Is the F-Type Coupe really as good as everyone's saying?
- Driving a Radical at the 'ring
- MY15 Aston Martins tested
- And much more!
