Citroen Xsara VTR, Jaguar X-Type, Honda S2000
Push bike! Sold the S2000 to put towards a deposit on a mortgage...
"A car for every situation, painted black..."
Gardner Douglas Mk4 AC Cobra
"A seriously cool toy for those lovely British summer days. For me it looks the business in black without all the chrome. It might offend the purists, but when it looks this good and has a 400hp 6.3-litre V8, who cares?! This is also £100K garage not £10M garage, so the real thing is a bit out of reach. I love the reputation of these cars and the British/American combination, it's a muscle car that works on British roads and has the steering wheel on the right side. It makes Astons and Ferraris look common and offends non-petrolheads and badge snobs alike. Plus it's going to make one hell of a noise."
Fancy a continuation Cobra? More here.
Jaguar XKR
"The everyday car. In Monday to Friday rush hour, stop-start traffic, the auto box is king in my (lazy) eyes. Just for the record it's a black Jag, with a supercharged V8, which is very cool. It's the perfect car for wafting quickly through inner city traffic and across the great British countryside alike. This example looks like it has been well cared for and the black on black colour combo is suitably sinister."
Plenty more XKRs to choose from here.
Ford F100
Cost: £11,000
Balance: £35,010
Why I chose it: "A very cool utility vehicle for putting bikes, kayaks and general big stuff in! I was looking for a Defender V8 for this role, then stumbled along this and decided it was way cooler and the Impreza and the Range Rover could cope with a bit of snow should our winter go that way again."
Subaru Impreza RB320
"It's raining outside, you need to be somewhere quickly. Is there anything quicker point to point over A/B-Roads in normal British weather than an Impreza or Evo? I'm not going to start the age old debate between the two, I'm sure most of you will know where your allegiances lie but either way you'll have a healthy respect for the other party. For me I'm a fan of both, but this one is cheaper than an Evo VIII FQ360 and looks pretty mean in black."
Like the Impreza? More like this.
Range Rover Sport Supercharged
Cost: £14,989
Balance: £4,526
Why I chose it: "The Mrs is going to need something to potter about in. She can put her (ISOFIX requiring) nieces, friends and as much shopping as she desires in this, then I can steal it when for some strange reason I don't need any of the other vehicles in this garage!"
Mk2 Golf GTI 16V
"A fast appreciating classic that will make you feel like you're 18 again! The coilovers and wheels might not be to all tastes, but you're not likely to care what other people think when you're behaving like a hoonigan in the local supermarket car park ... I mean, sorry officer, driving very sensibly like we all did as young adults...
"That would leave £1,726 to take the Mrs somewhere sunny, which would hopefully take her mind off the six vehicles outside!"
