"My £100K garage is a combination of teenage obsession, everyday durability and a desire to own the ultimate driving machine. I've tried to ensure there is a car for every occasion in there - a couple that tick the family runaround box (if you can class a 400hp V8 as a school run car!), a hot hatch that I can hopefully pass down to my son (if it lasts that long) and a number of self indulgent sports cars that, lets face it, should be the cornerstone of every mans £100K list. It won't be to everyone's taste but this is a very personal list that I've been buying in my mind for the last 25 years."
Peugeot 106 GTI 16v
"I spent the first five years of my driving days obsessed with everything Peugeot - even before I had my license I used to lovingly gaze through the Peugeot sales brochure. My best friend's dad was the manager of the local Peugeot dealership, which might go some way to explaining this strange French fascination. Due to this my first three cars were all low powered Peugeot 106s. The one I could never quite reach though (mainly as it would have probably ended upside down in a field) was the 106 GTi so it definitely feels like the right place to start my £100K garage. There are limited numbers of 106 GTIs on PistonHeads but the one I've got for is as stock as possible, even down to the original wheels that I had on my Quiksilver."
Land Rover Defender
I've never actually owned a Land Rover, however my Dad had an original three-door Disco when I was young. This served him well for nearly 15 years. I wasn't a fan of it at first but during this time I began to realise just how well they are made (even the Morris Marina door handles only broke on two occasions!) My garage is going to need something suitable for the occasional off-road holiday (mainly the annual camping trip I have organised with my school friends for the past 18 years). Having studied the options the Defender seems like the perfect choice - a timeless look coupled with the ability to go pretty much anywhere. It also means I can tick the family car box when I present my £100K garage to my wife! The one I've chosen is exactly the one I want. Big tyres, nice dark colour and it comes with the obligatory roof exhaust - although it's unlikely that will ever be used for its original intention."
(Andrew's original selection had sold so we've substituted this car. Should do just as well! - MB).
Porsche 356 Speedster (Replica)
"This car is purely part of my £100K garage for its looks. I have literally no idea what it drives like but the looks alone have got to be worth money! Beginning when I was seven my parents' German neighbour spent three years building a 911 from scratch - the process nearly killed him, but when it was finished, even by his own admission "it was worth it!". It was the first ride I ever had in a genuine sports car and from that moment onwards I promised myself that one day I would own a Porsche. The 356, for me, is the ultimate car! Obviously with a real one costing upwards of £100K I've had to opt for the replica. I've found an absolute beauty, the colour is fantastic and the interior is stunning too although I would have to get the stereo changed to something a bit more classic."
Nissan 370Z
"This was certainly the easiest car in my £100K garage to choose. After spending six years behind the wheel of a 350Z I fell in love with the brutishness of taking a Z car to the local shop to get a pint of milk. Every journey, no matter how long or short, was like a scene from a Steve McQueen movie and to say people could hear my coming before they could actually see me is an understatement! The only reason I got rid of it was the impending arrival of my first-born and to this day (as my wife will testify) it's a decision I've regretted ever since. I've only driven the 370Z once and there was an instant connection - a rush of adrenaline that I've only ever experienced behind the wheel of a V6 Nissan. The model I've gone for has low mileage and comes in the perfect colour (in my opinion), although I'm not sure if the transportation from Holland is included in the price (let's pretend it does!)."
TVR Cerbera Speed 6
"This is a car I've obsessed over for a number of years. When I owned my 350Z it seemed to be the only other car that I could hear over my own exhaust! I know it comes with a reputation for spending more time on the hard shoulder than on the road so for that reason alone its going to be my £100K garage weekend car. It may only ever get taken out three or four times a year but when I do drive it the smile on my face will probably remain until the next time. There were limited Speed 6s available for this price but this one has had a recent rebuild and comes with a sterling service history, so hopefully it will be the exception when it comes to TVR's general reliability."
BMW M3 (E92)
"The M3 is another of those cars that I've always promised myself I will one day own. When I had my E36 I used to daydream about just how impressive an actual M3 would be! Even now with my current BMW I've never experienced build quality like it. Even though the M3 coupe has been replaced I still think the E92 is the looking M car ever made. I love the colour the one I've chosen comes in (you might have noticed a love of striking blue cars) and the fact it comes with the Competition Pack is the icing on the cake. I also think this can pass as a bit of a family car - it's certainly going to see a lot more drive time than my TVR!
"That leaves me with enough money to treat my for a little while to apologise for the fact she is very rarely going to see me for the next four or five years!"
