Spring is apparently here and hibernating weekend cars can be dusted off and have the cobwebs blasted out of them. And it's time to look ahead to the summer and start planning those roadtrips and weekends away. Where are you going? Let us know! In the meantime there's plenty of metal new and old to get you inspired from the last seven days on PH. Here are some of the highlights...
Remember when 'super' was all the prefix we needed? Well, things have definitely gone 'hyper' now. This week we saw two very different takes on the theme, the
Lykan Hypersport
announcing its arrival in suitably bombastic style with a cameo in the latest Fast and Furious instalment. From holographic displays to jewel-encrusted lights, a watch and a 24-hour concierge it's all about the lifestyle. Could it keep up with
an Ultima Evo
though? More contrasting ways of going very fast indeed couldn't be imagined! If not a hypercar as such
Hyundai's mid-engined Veloster
- or RM15 as it's called - looks like a lot of fun. But if speed is all look no further than the
1,000mph Bloodhound SSC
. PH caught up with the team ahead of first tests of the car itself.
Slightly more down to earth we this week enjoyed revisiting some of our favourite cars in favourite locations. First Dan drove the
'new' Caterham 360R
up the M6 to Oulton Park to explore a day in the life of a Seven - classic British car, classic British track and classic British weather all featured. We then explored two apparently similar but actually very different ways of taking apart the traditional British B-road, pitching
Subaru WRX STI against Audi S3 saloon
. A feisty and lengthy debate ensued - make time to enjoy that too! More traditional British motoring could be found with a great PHTV clip submitted by Davetherave1970 showing
man and TVR
in perfect harmony on an airfield day. We also had
good news from Lotus
lovely old Jag
Dan's enthusiasm for his little Mazda got a shot in the arm thanks to the spring sunshine; predictable MX-5 evangelising can be found in his
latest PH Fleet update
here. More on our Audi versus Subaru test and tons more beside can be seen in the
latest PHTV episode
, Dan and James bringing you chat, vids and more from the PH TV studio/pub. Who'd have thought heel'n'toe downshifting would prove to be such a controversial subject, eh? Matt's love of esoteric JDM specials was indulged with a Spotted on a rather lovely (if also rather expensive)
Charade GTti
while Dale reported from the Nurburgring on the news of
Nordschleife speeds limits
for races following the terrible accident that saw a spectator killed when Jann Mardenborough's GT-R left the track. On a brighter note
Motorsport On Monday
(actually Tuesday - it was a bank hol after all!) reported back on a great start to the BTCC and more besides.
- Clio Williams PH Heroes
- Ford Mustang Euro drive
- Lamborghini Aventador SV
- And much more!
