Stephen writes: "This £100K Garage is not really about me or my choices. Back in January we lost a fellow PHer, Adi Mitchell. A man of many talents, who had an exciting life and a car history to match. As Le Mans has come and gone for another year I am reminded of one of the many happy times we spent mucking about in cars. This was Adi 'driving' a Westfield with a tuned Rover V8. He had some great cars but drove them all badly.
"This garage is quite simply made up of the cars he owned, in chronological order, as best I can remember. I've just added cars until the money has run out. Pretty much what Adi did for real...
"So don't judge me harshly on the choice, I know it's not a 'balanced portfolio' and it's not what I'd spend my money on. But it's a way for me to look back fondly on 20 years of fun with a dear friend. Life isn't the same without him."
MGB Roadster (1976)
Cost: £8,000
Balance: £92,000
Why I chose it: "As close to Adi's car as I could find, which I think was a 1975 but certainly a black, rubber bumper MGB Roadster. Not bad for a first car! I was driving around in a Citroen AX at the time."
Lotus Elise S1 (1997)
: "As close to Adi's car as I could find, which was an early S1 in silver. Adi bought it from new, so it was the first Elise I had the pleasure of driving and one of the first on the roads. Adi was definitely ahead of the crowd with this one."
Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo (1996)
Cost: £20,000
Balance: £61,000
Why I chose it: "Esprits seem to be getting hard to find, especially the V8 Twin Turbos. Of the three for sale on PH this one was closest to Adi's. His was red, but the only red V8 for sale is 50 grand! Who can resist 350 horses, 3.5 litres, V8 and two turbos? This was the car Adi drove me to church in on my wedding day."
Subaru Impreza Turbo P1 (2000)
: "One of the few cars Adi owned from new, this one looks exactly like his. Amazingly this is a one owner car with a reasonable 57,000 miles for less than 14 grand! Quite tempted by this one myself! I will never forget experiencing the amazing traction of the 4WD Scooby for the first time; rev it high and dump the clutch and watch it take off without a hint of wheelspin! [Unfortunately the low-mileage example was sold, hopefully Adi would have appreciated this one just as much - Ed.]
Ferrari 348TS Targa (1990)
Cost: £39,000
Balance: £8,550
Why I chose it: "Adi always wanted a Ferrari. He'd wanted a 348 ever since we saw one in the showroom in New York City in 1993. I've chosen this one, a left hooker, because a LHD 348 Targa was the Ferrari Adi could afford. He ruined it by fitting a sports exhaust; I could tell when he was in the area from half a mile away. Eventually the car caught fire sitting in traffic, but not before I'd enjoyed a few blasts down the A3."
Porsche Boxster S (2002)
: "Bang on the money! This is the best Boxster S I found for the budget. We've forwarded on a few years, but I couldn't afford to buy Adi's next couple of cars, the BMW Z3 M Roadster and the Audi RS6 Avant. He also had an M3 Convertible for a bit."
