The British Grand Prix has been and gone, it's the middle of July and the Silverstone Classic is very soon - it's most certainly the summer now! But PH doesn't slack off for the summer holidays as there are still a load of worthwhile cars to be talking about. Since the last Motoring Week we've had 30 stories on the site, covering everything from the BAC Mono to the VW Phaeton. Here's the place to see them all!
The world is watching Alfa...
A very busy few days for prototypes of cars we're eagerly anticipating. It kicked off with the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 caught
at the Nurburgring
sporting many exhausts, many cylinders and (apparently) much noise too. A strong rivalry that only looks set to continue.
Speaking of sports saloons (and that German race track), the Alfa Giulia was also seen completing a few laps later in the week. It too will have its own rivals from BMW M and Mercedes AMG, exceptional cars they both are too. Can the Alfa compete? Hopefully the answer can be discovered soon.
It's still unclear just what AMG's "something fast" will be, though a very aggressive AMG GT has been seen this week. Just a day after the Jaguar F-Type SVR too. Should be quite a test...
As a week for hot hatches, it only seems right that what promises to be one of 2016's best has been photographed this week. Traffic must be murder in Nurburg this time of year... The Golf GTI Clubsport promises the GTI a much needed spike of excitement and track focus. 40 is a significant birthday after all!
Hello, farewell and welcome back
Quite a few comings and goings in the car world this week, keeping everyone occupied. BAC announced details of its
updated Mono
, including a very fast unofficial Goodwood time. HSV launched its latest
R8 Clubsport Anniversary
, the last before Holden production in Australia ceases. And out of storage came Crockett and Tubbs'
Testarossa
, gleaming in white and ready for your pastel suit at auction next month.
From one white car with rear-wheel drive and its engine behind the driver to another; the Renault Twingo! Alright, so it didn't perhaps deliver on the dynamic promise of its layout but it did prove a likeable, accomplished city car. In a rather more PH-worthy review, Dan has driven a pre-production Elemental RP1, which proved itself already more than worthy of consideration in another busy sector.
Another sad departure this week too, with Giorgetto Giugiaro leaving his own design company. Appropriately enough given Audi has bought Italdesign Giugiaro outright, the RS4 has recently ceased production too. The time to grab a nearly new deal perhaps?
Someone buy it before we do!
Charlie Martin
has been busy again at another big French event, scoring a respectable finish despite the usual travel woes!
Continuing the hot hatch theme this week are updates on two members of the PH Fleet; the Mini JCW and Ben's Clio Trophy. It could expand further if enough pennies could be found down the sofa for this gorgeous 106 Rallye...
As always it's been another great week for PHer content, with a Ferrari 430 Scuderia Carpool and a pair of £100K Garages; see Wednesday's here and Friday's here.
From our regular features there is a stunning Singer reimagination in Pic Of The Week, a BMW M3 that has sparked a lot of debate and all the reaction from a genuinely entertaining British GP.
