: "As you will notice my car history contain all kinds of performance cars but I always turn to lightweight sports cars to get my thrills. I will need something roomy and comfy for trips to south west France where we holiday at least once a year. Also my better half needs something compact and nippy (she used to organise a well known European car rally so it's in her blood now!) but the Mini will be hard to beat."
Range Rover TDV8
Cost: £25,950
Balance: £74,050
Why I chose it: "It's luxurious, full of equipment and will be great on the motorway and for doing tip runs. It's timelessly classy too, for arriving at hotels in style."
Ariel Atom
: "I've always had lightweight sports cars and I'm not ready to stop now! This one has been upgraded to 3.5 spec which will make it rather rapid, plus there are new wings front and rear. But it's not completely unusable - see the windscreen and side leg screens. I've never driven one but they look a riot. It was a tough choice between this and an R500 Caterham but after years of Seven ownership I thought it was time for a complete change."
Mazda MX-5
Cost: £22,499
Balance: £7,551
Why I chose it: "It's for my far better half; after six years in a Cooper S convertible it's time for a change and this ticks all the boxes: it's not too big, the boot is a decent size and it will be great fun. I think I might be taking it out quite a lot too!"
Yamaha RD250
: "No, I don't have a bike licence but if I had this it would encourage me to go for it! Or I could just sit on it my garage, look at it and think of the days when I used to hanker after one as an 80s teenager. OK, it's only 250 and it was the 350 that everyone wanted but this will certainly do. I know enough about these bikes to know that they were ground breaking and contributed a great deal towards the design and ethos of the modern sports bikes."
"Final balance to be spent on fuel, insurance and tax."
