It's been a little while since the
Jaguar F-Type
has featured on these pages. Oh sure, there were spy shots of an
SVR version
last summer and debate will continue on the
Project 7
, but the last time we actually wrote about a series production F-Type was the
manual drive
All-wheel drive and auto only
So the news of a 'British Design Edition' is quite welcome, because the F-Type excitement doesn't quite seem to have worn off just yet. It's nothing revolutionary - keep holding on for that lightweight V6 manual - but intriguing enough as a fully-loaded spec addition to the range.
Offered as either a coupe or convertible, the British Design Edition is based on the 380hp V6 S AWD with the automatic gearbox; it's not available with rear-wheel drive or the manual. Over a regular V6 S, each British Design Edition gets the exterior Sport Design Pack, the Super Performance Braking system (a £1,000 option), the 20-inch 'Cyclone' wheels (£2,632 on a regular V6 S) plus a few new badges inside and out to mark it out as something a bit different.
Fancy 'Ultra Blue' paint new to F-Type range
What with this being the British Design Edition, this F-Type is only offered in red, white and blue. Oh yes, and black. The blue is new for this car, called Ultra Blue and now available throughout the F-Type range. Looks pretty smart, right? Inside there's carbon fibre in place of the aluminium trim usually found and leather with contrast stitching. One more thing too - repackaging work on all F-Type convertibles for 2017 has yielded an additional eight litres of boot space, taking the total to 206.7. Woo...
If the F-Type British Design Edition takes your fancy, it's available to order now from £75,225 for the coupe and £80,390 for the convertible. Those prices make it £8,320 and £8,000 more respectively than the V6 S AWD coupe and convertible with the automatic gearbox. Is the British Design Edition worth the extra? Time to decide!
