Occasionally cars fall by the wayside, lost, forgotten and hidden out of view. It's when they're discovered again that they become exciting. Genuine barn finds are thrilling, perhaps when a property is passed down and a proper exploration is finally undertaken. The car becomes a time capsule begging to be restored, remembering the original owner and the times spent with the car.
This week's pick from the Readers' Cars forum doesn't go as far as being passed down through the generations, but Pits' BMW 840Ci was hidden away in the garage after needing an engine rebuild. Then it was T-boned. Then the insurance company wouldn't pay...
Four years later, the BMW is going to see the light of day. A full restoration is underway, with some rust to be attended to, a new sports bumper to fit, a full respray and a repair to the damage that took it off the road in the first place. What makes this restoration special is the hope to get it ready in time for his dad's birthday later this month.
So congratulations Mr Pits, your BMW 840Ci is our PH Reader's Car Of The Week! Let's hope your dad doesn't read the site...
