Daft though it may sound, the 550hp
Range Rover Sport SVR
is a little undernourished in the super SUV stakes. After all, a
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S
makes more than 560hp and the
X5M
is at 575hp, with another 52lb ft as well. That's before the prospect of a Competition Package too.
Making a racket, most probably
So for the update of the SVR, it seems likely that more power will be on the agenda. Couldn't have the Range Rover lagging behind the Germans now, could we? Conveniently enough the
F-Type SVR
has been confirmed with 575hp, so expect that version of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 to find its way to the SVR. What a 25hp gain will do for the claimed 4.7-second sprint to 62mph remains to be seen.
From these images, the disguise around the front intakes would suggest a tweak is due there. The rest of the car appears unchanged, perhaps not surprising given the SVR was only first driven a year ago.
Where there could be more significant changes is inside. The PH long-term test has shown up the infotainment system as rather outdated, particularly in a car that costs £100,000. But now of course the Jaguar F-Pace has the latest InControl Touch Pro system, which is a marked improvement on the Range Rover system. Let's see.
Given how mild the facelift appears to be, expect considerably less fanfare for this SVR than when it was first shown. It's due to be released as a 2017 model, implying a motor show debut somewhere towards the end of this year. LA perhaps? We'll keep you posted.
