It must be approaching the summer when news about car festivals and motorsport emerges. In less than three months, Shelsley Walsh will play host to both Hans-Joachim Stuck and the
his father made his name in; of course they had to make Pic Of The Week!
This particular image comes from 1937, with Stuck competing in Schauinsland as part of the German Hillclimb Championship for that year. And yes, he really is that sideways. Eyes forward, rear tyres at the edge and front wheels catching the slide, it's a brilliant oversteer shot. In a mid-engined 16-cylinder car with woefully inadequate tyres and spectators but a few metres away. It's an incredible piece of driving, precursor to all those hillclimb vids we see today and great wallpaper fodder. For a GoPro in 1937!
So while the Shelsley drive may not be quite this spectacular, what an opportunity it will be to see the car again. Bring on July!
