As if to prove the point that it's definitely, definitely back in
World Touring Cars
, Volvo has now announced a
V60 Polestar
Safety Car to go alongside the S60 that will race in it.
Flashing lights make everything better, right?
Now this is not a safety car in the mould of the
BMW M2
, the latter with its Recaro seats, uprated exhaust and carbon ceramic brakes. All we're told on the V60 is that the car is equipped with "a roll cage, rescue and communication equipment" to meet the safety requirements. Anyone worried that the Polestar isn't loud enough to head a field of WTCC cars though should watch
this vid
; it makes more noise than you might think!
Volvo will enter this year's WTCC with Cyan Racing and two TC1 S60s, racing against Honda Civics, Citroen C-Elysees and Lada Vestas. The first round is at Paul Ricard this weekend. Now Volvo, how about making the S60 the safety car and the V60 the racing car? There's a bit of history with racing estates, after all.
