Race cars. Stunning machines moulded through aerodynamics and fine engineering, built for a purpose. Some are the complete opposite, apparently improvised with tacked on aero or swollen to accommodate cooling and other demands placed on them by bigger and more powerful engines. When Formula 1 regulations were open it led to some interesting yet frightful designs, placing function way, way before form. And then we have the more unfortunate results of playing the rulemakers' game, like the Ann Summers style front ends of recent F1 cars.
F1 isn't the only motorsport category featuring cars heavily beaten with the ugly stick. Pikes Peak is always one to regurgitate a number of howlers, fitted with wings that wouldn't look out of place on an aeroplane. Meanwhile WRC and America's own dirt oval sprint series both feature contenders for ugliest race car ever.
So come on then, time for a freak show. What's the ugliest racing car ever made?
