Doesn't matter where you live - there will always be car obsessed neighbours with money to fund the habit. Especially if you live somewhere estate agents would describe as 'gentrified', 'aspirational' or 'up and coming' where a flash motor on the driveway is an essential garnish for the conspicuous displays of wealth and status. There are certain unwritten rules in this regard in some neighbourhoods, never mind those with stricter ones like 'no vans'.
Rules can be subverted though, as Dan suggests in today's RS6/GT-R comparison - life may say you are a family man but that doesn't mean you have to abandon life with an interesting car. PHer Jayemm89 lives near a road where the speed limit changes from 20 to the national speed limit and a neighbour with an E39 BMW M5 gives it a little throttle letting off a sonorous exhaust note. Meanwhile one lucky PHer has a number of supercars around so he gets to pick out the rarer ones like a Ferrari 333sp, which his neighbour uses for track days whilst another user has an older neighbour who he sees every so often enjoying himself in a 'super shiny black F reg Renault 5 GT Turbo.'
