The world is ending. All cars have plugged up the nation's motorways and you need to get from Lands End to John o'Groats as quickly and efficiently as possible. Google Maps says it's 958 miles with an estimated travel time of 18 hours 42 minutes. Surely flat-out you can get it below 17 hours.
What car would you drive? Would you go for a high-capacity car with plenty of power, explosive acceleration and a high top speed, or a frugal car that can do the journey on a couple of tanks of fuel? In America, Alex Roy succeeded in a similar feat when he drove from New York to Los Angeles setting a record time of 26 hours and 28 minutes; he did, however, have to deal with police and other 'obstacles'...
A PHer has done some maths and figured out a fuel stop will cost between five and seven minutes which equates to eight to ten miles needed to catch-up to someone who hasn't stopped for fuel.
The Dakar-winning Peugeot 2008 DKR with its 400-litre tank surely has to be up there (we can make it road legal, can't we?) as best tool for the job.
