Winter is upon us. Gone are the summer months, and with them many of London's super and hypercars have returned to their homes - be that back under a cover in a garage, or further afield to Europe or the Middle East.
You might think this is a disaster for spotting supercars in London, and first impressions would suggest you'd be right. There is a noticeable decrease in the quantity of exotica on the streets of Knightsbridge and Mayfair once summer is over; however, when it comes to the art of car spotting, quality is key, not quantity!
Once the armies of Aventador SVs have abandoned our capital, it allows room for more varied and interesting cars to make appearances, unintimidated. An excellent example of this is the Renault 5 Turbo leading this month's instalment. Is it a supercar? Arguably not. Is it insanely cool? Arguably so. It doesn't stop there either, with both the absolutely stunning Ferrari 250 Lusso, and maybe even more attractive Jaguar XK120, making fleeting appearances!
Last month I brought you Mark Webber's Porsche 919 driving through London; this month I don't quite have an ex-F1 driver in his race wining LMP1 car; however, I do have an actual F1 car, in the street! As well as a not quite as cool, but still very impressive Lamborghini Diablo SVR racing car, just parked up in Mayfair like it was no big deal...
Back to what this is about, supercars. The clear standout example spotted this month in London was the Bugatti Chiron chassis #007. This car featured at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year and is a pre-production model belonging to Bugatti. It was the first ever Chiron to grace London (although at the time of writing this there have been two), and I managed to catch it as it did a very short lap of Mayfair on trade plates before being ushered away into the UK's only Bugatti dealership.
November no doubt will provide more unique and outrageous spots - make sure to check back in a month!
