The average annual mileage for British drivers is
7,900 miles a year
, the latest figures in fact showing that number to be a historic low. Some PHers can crack that number within a few weeks. I have been fortunate enough (or not) to undertake a pan-European journey a few times. It is an experience that initially sounds like a good idea, but once completed takes its toll on the body and brain.
This thread discusses and celebrates long stints in cars or on motorbikes. Some of the highlights are one person driving from the Isle of Man to Gozo (via Germany) in 48 hours. That is 2,250 miles with two ferry journeys and the return journey done a day later - commitment! An unwanted journey fell to a man who previously worked for Her Majesty's Prison Service, who only realised he had the keys to the prison in his pocket after completing a 200-mile journey. Fearing for his job, he made the commute back, scoring himself a speeding ticket in the process and then drove back once more.
What is the longest distance you have driven in one stint? Let us know here.
