Chinese company Techrules, which previewed a diesel turbine supercar at Geneva last year, has upped its game for 2018 and will show a single seat track-only variant known as the Ren RS. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and son Fabrizio, the car has been developed and honed by L.M. Gianetti of Turin, known for its work on the Lancia 037 and Delta S4.
The Ren RS sticks with the fighter jet-style canopy of the Ren, but loses the passenger seats, favouring a single seat design for weight saving purposes. There is no word on how much the Ren RS will weigh but the original Ren supercar tipped the scales at 1,700kg, so expect something closer to 1,500kg this time around.
This model can be specified with either four or six electric motors - in its most powerful specification with two electric motors up front and four at the rear it will offer 1,305hp and a 0-62mph time of under 3 seconds.
To keep those electric motors juiced, Techrules uses its Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) powertrain which uses a turbine to drive a generator which rapidly charges the 28kWh battery pack offering 1,170km of range on 80 litres of diesel.
Techrules is aiming to further its interest in micro-turbine recharging technology by developing partnerships with major China-based global corporations; the end goal of this is to create powertrains for automotive and non-automotive applications around the world.
