New PHer Dodgey1 has only been a member for a day, but has already made a more noteworthy contribution to the forums than most of us can in several years.
That contribution comes in the form of his Readers' Cars thread on the subject of his Rolls-Royce 'Special' resto-build. Based on a 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II - a sense of scale is difficult to get from the photos, but it looks to be a shorter wheel-base 'Continental' - chassis, the project is really starting to take on a life of its own.
We may be more used to seeing Phantoms with traditional, stately bodywork but, of course, those designs were not down to Rolls-Royce themselves. Only the engine and chassis were provided by the Derby factory, with owners then commissioning a coachbuilder of their choice to complete the rest of the car.
And with Dodgey1 now taking on the roll of both client and coachbuilder, that gives him a rather free reign when it comes to the direction of the project. As the owner of a sheet metal shop he says he has no idea what the orginal body looked like, but is able to fabricate new body panels himself, and looks to be doing a fantastic job of it, too.
With a giganitc V12 engine now fitted up front, and some marvelous details - like the replacement rocker covers, new filler cap and classic Rolls headlights - in place, we can't wait to see where it goes next!
