Yesterday saw the PH team head to Uttoxeter for our first ever Sunday Service at JCB's World Headquarters. The £40 million, 450,000sq ft facility made an even more appropriate setting than you might first imagine, producing as it does a wide range of JCB's 300 different products - from seven tonne skid steers to 46 tonne excavators - it was the perfect backdrop for the diversity of a PH meet.
Despite a drizzly start to the day PHers turned out in force, braving the weather in all kinds of machines - some much bolder choices for the conditions than others. From a vintage SS Jaguar 100 to a Lamborghini Aventador, via a pair of Mevster kit cars, the variety of ways to enjoy yourself on four wheels was greater than ever.
The sky soon began to brighten as even more fantastic cars arrived and the guided tours got underway. Taking members across the campus to the Story of JCB exhibit, the tours were lead by former employees of the company, all of whom had a wealth of knowledge to call on, as well as some wonderful anecdotes.
Starting with a quick stop at the company's purpose-built theatre, the tours then progressed to the museum, which traces the history of JCB from the inception of its first backhoe to the DieselMax land speed record car and beyond. Back outside, meanwhile, younger attendees were busy clambering into the cabs of a couple of the brand's more familiar offerings as well as - thanks to some typically generous PH spirit - a few of the more exotic arrivals.
A huge thank you goes to everyone at JCB for accommodating us all, as well as to PH parter and event sponsor ALA, gap insurance provider to JCB, which very generously supplied free drinks for everyone in attendance. We'll soon be announcing our next Sunday Service - to be held at a more familiar location - so keep your eyes peeled for that one and we'll see you there!
PHers are already discussing the JCB Sunday Service in the forums here.
