HSV
in Australia have a job many of us would envy. Taking Holden's (GM's) run of the
mill saloons and sorting them out to appeal to the likes of us sounds rather
fun. They're gearing up for the Sydney Motor Show currently with the launch of a
two-door high performance flagship that will also showcase their wares on the
racetrack.
That concept is the HRT 427. Holden took care of the styling and left HSV to
do the project management, engineering and building of the car. Most importantly
the car features a 427 cubic inch (7.0 litre:D) big block Chevvy engine based on
the Corvette C5R race engine. It's been hand built by HRT technicians,
incorporating their own unique piston and CNC cylinder head design. It even has
eight individual throttle bodies with carbon fibre trumpets!
Despite a strict weight reduction program, it tips the scales at a relatively
hefty 1575kg despite a carbon fibre bonnet magnesium 18-inch wheels.. Audio and
air conditioning systems are deleted, as are the rear seats which are replaced
with carbon fibre panels to cover the lightweight dry cell battery.
No performance details are currently available, but it's sure to be 'brisk'.
And it's right hand drive of course :scratchchin:
