Local bus operators will be eligible for a 100% fuel duty rebate on biodiesel,
the Minister for Cleaner Vehicles, David Jamieson has announced.
The changes will enable bus operators to receive a full rebate of the fuel
duty paid on the fuel which is made from recycled waste vegetable oils or virgin
rapeseed oils.
Private motorists using the fuel already benefit from a cut of 20% in the
duty due on it, although it's likely that most users simply don't declare it.
The fuel can be used as a blend (normally at 5%) in all regular diesel
engines. Higher blends and even pure biodiesel can also be used, but this may
require engine modification for some makes of vehicle.
