If MG are trying to keep this car under wraps then painting it yellow ain't
going to help! This MG SV rolled up at Mallory Park on Tuesday during a track
day run by TVR MADS and Team Proactive.
It nipped into the paddock during a break between sessions and soon caught
the eye of the drivers nipping back to the cafe for a pie (okay, it caught my
eye). During the lunch break it certainly attracted a lot of interest with
crowds gathering around the yellow beast.
The Ford V8 powered car managed a few laps of the circuit - albeit at a
snail's pace - after the track was cleared to let the engineers go out to play.
The V8 certainly sounds the part with the distinctively American soundtrack
plain to hear.
Extremely tinted windows prevented much of a glimpse of the interior but what
we could see of it was the fully finished product. This is no mule, but a fully
working and fully trimmed car. The sight of an auto 'box was a little
disappointing though. Build quality was notably good. Panel gaps were tight and
the fit and finish was superb.
MG quote a weight of a relatively heavy 1450kg for the SV and power outputs
starting at 326bhp from the quad cam V8. That's going to be enough to make it
quick, but not supercar quick. There should be plenty of options in the tuning
department for potential owners to pick from though.
Opinions were mixed in the paddock with the general consensus being that it
could find a place in the market, but a price tag said to be around £65K could
be stretching things a little.
