Hurrah, another May Bank Holiday weekend! So there's no excuse not to be right up to date with all that's newsworthy on PH. Sunny outside? It'll rain soon. Stay in and read about the Mercedes C63 in the UK, an astonishing Nurburgring lap time and the Jaguar Heritage Challenge.
Looks fast, is fast. Very fast
Plenty to discuss this week as far as mid-engined cars with many cylinders and huge power are concerned. Yep, it's the supercars. Just a few days ahead of the launch (we're on our way there as you read this), Lamborghini revealed a stunning 6:59 Nurburgring lap for its
Aventador SV
. That's a phenomenal time for a big, bad, relatively
old-fashioned supercar
Ferrari is never far away from a Lamborghini discussion but this week it's not a rival. Dan had the opportunity to drive a Ferrari 288 GTO from the Wilton House collection and was understandably left entirely captivated. Will it follow the other Ferrari homologation cars into the tens of millions?
In more modest supercar news, Lotus announced the a price and options list for the Evora 400 and a Honda NSX was plucked from the classifieds. But not just any old NSX, an NSX-R. Recently in the country and with very low miles. The price? Quite a lot more than a new Evora would cost, put it that way...
There was additional interesting news to come out of Lotus this week too. In a tie-up with Magnitude Events, the Hethel test track will be opened for a range of
heritage track days
for pre-'95 classics. Exciting news! What to take? A few
on-brand suggestions
emerged from the classifieds, and there's bound to be one or two
at auction
as well. It would surely be a great track for the
Elemental RP1
also but it'll be a while before that's eligible!
Hot hatches are always on the PH radar and there was interesting news this week at both ends of the product spectrum. There's an update for the Abarth 595 which includes more power and the latest raft of (really) fast Golfs have been spied at the Nurburgring. One promises 400hp, the other is aimed squarely at the Renaultsport Megane. Exciting times ahead...
So as well as a drive in a 288 GTO, Dan also recently raced in the
Jaguar Heritage Challenge
. No rest for the wicked, eh? Unfortunately that drive wasn't quite as successful as the Ferrari escapade.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 was always going to be a popular car on PH, so it seemed appropriate to dedicate POTW to it after the UK drive. You want tyre smoke after dark? You got it!
Elsewhere there's a new PHTV episode and £100K Garage, one of the finest Sheds arguably ever seen and the four-cylinder Mustang's return. Last but by no means least, we have full details of PH at Le Mans 2015. It promises to be superb, we look forward to seeing you there!
