It is interesting what the human body can handle. There have been stories of mothers lifting cars off children, people circumnavigating the world alone and those who break records that seem impossible.
Darren Franks aka 'Gruffy' is embarking on an extreme, ultra-distance bike race tomorrow evening in Belgium, finishing in Turkey. Not many will know a lot about the Transcontinental Race, which is now in its fourth year. It pushes riders to their limits, causing them to spend 18 hours or more on their bikes and ride an average of 400km a day. The route isn't officially set, but there are mandatory controls that ensure riders hit some famous European bits of tarmac. Sleep is optional in this race as riders have no support, using only what they can carry or acquire en-route to the finish.
Darren is raising money for Cancer Research and you can keep up to date with his adventure on the thread here.
