Black Series - albeit detuned by a whisker here - but the Edition 507 looks to be a rather different kettle of fish. Where the Black is a hardcore proposition aimed towards track use, the Edition 507 has been geared more for the road.
While it takes the Black Series’ bonnet, the rest of the cosmetics are broadly the same as the standard C63’s, with the exception of the new 19” alloy wheels and a smattering of gloss black about the place. Same goes for the suspension setup and the seven-speed MCT transmission, neither of which will change in any significant way.
SLS AMG – namely its forged pistons, con rods and lightweight crankshaft. That'll give it a maximum power figure 50hp higher than the standard car’s, and 20hp more even than the AMG Performance Package. Allied to maximum torque of 450lb ft, that means 62mph comes up in 4.2sec for the saloon and coupe, and 4.3sec for the estate, with an electronically-limited 174mph top whack for all three.
Of course, as any petrolhead worth his salt knows, it’s always wise to combine an increase in power with better brakes, so the Edition 507 gets composite discs like the Black Series', chosen for their lightness and resistance to warping, though here they're only 360mm in diameter.
While Mercedes describes the new model as ‘exclusive’, there’s no mention yet of any sort of limited production, though we’re awaiting confirmation on that. Pricing and on-sale dates, too, are yet to be released – of course, we’ll bring you more as we get it.
