With bright blue skies and glorious sunshine we certainly couldn't have asked for better weather which, coupled with the rolling Malvern Hills, provided the perfect setting for our Sunday Service to Morgan Motor Car Company.
Sure enough, almost on cue, the tranquillity of the early morning was pierced by a glorious ensemble of PHer cars approaching.
The array of vehicles included many which evoked a strong sense of nostalgia amongst older PHers, in particular two Ford Sierra Cosworths (one which seemed to have outgrown its numberplate over time) as well as a Ford Escort XR3i and a Peugeot 205 GTI.
Of course there were a few more modern cars including a Lamborghini Huracan, Lotus Evora 400, an Aston V12 Vantage S and a BMW M2 - what better thing to do on collection weekend? A special mention also must go to the custom Golf GTI which put a huge smile on everyone's faces. What a fantastic car. Or half a car, rather.
With seven cars from the Morgan fleet already lined up for passenger rides, the registration desk was soon swamped and I'm proud to say that each and every space was filled, raising over £1,000 for Worcester Oncology Centre in the process. The iconic 3-Wheeler was the choice of many initially, but once the roar of the Plus Eights was heard, many soon reconsidered their request.
The self-guided tours were just as popular, if not more so, than the passenger rides. Attendees followed each step of the car's production, from the initial assembly of the wooden chassis through to sub-assembly wiring and ending with paint, each stage just as interesting as the last. Observing the incredibly skilled and dedicated craftsmen was a great opportunity for any car enthusiast. Having spoken to them throughout the morning, they evidently take great pride in and have an unwavering passion for their work - and rightly so!
A huge thank you to all of the staff at Morgan for being such amazing hosts; I think everyone would agree that despite only being in April, this will be remembered as one of the best Sunday Services of the year.
