It doesn't seem all that long ago that the Geneva show was the talk of PH. Now it's the turn of New York next week to host the world's car manufacturers. Already we have significant debuts from McLaren, Jaguar and Mercedes to anticipate with more expected.
Elsewhere this week we've had new PH Hero, new Caterhams announced and plenty more besides. Catch up with everything here!
It's been one of those weeks where PH has been able to celebrate some past masters, and rather enjoyable it has been too. It kicked off with the PH Hero initiation of the
Ford Escort RS2000
and continued with the new
Caterham Sevens
. Of course they're not that new but that's what makes them so endearing - raw, uncorrupted thrills from a very simple idea.
The lightweight, old fashioned sports car is one also taken up by our Carpooler this week and his Fisher Fury. You'll especially want to hear about how redundancy added 100hp per tonne...
Of course there is no better place to celebrate days gone by than with a trip to Goodwood. Last weekend played host to the 73rd Members' Meeting, a fantastic celebration of historic motorsport. One that had to be marked with a POTW crammed with old touring cars, obviously.
Jag isn't doing this over the Hudson. Hopefully
There's been plenty to discuss on the very latest fast cars as well though. We knew the Porsche 911 would soon be going all turbocharged and now there's
video proof
; a name has finally been announced for McLaren's first Sports Series car too -
the 570S
will make its debut at New York next week.
Joining it on the list of New York show stars is the Mk2 Jaguar XF, a car that promises to be much lighter and more efficient than the car it replaces. It uses a lot of tech from the XE as well to ensure the dynamics are improved further too. There's also going to be the new Mercedes GLE exhibited, complete with a 585hp (!) AMG flagship.
It isn't hard to make a case for 600hp (or thereabouts) being better utilised elsewhere though. In one of Alpina's new Edition 50 B5 and B6s, for example. Or the Aston Vantage GT3 perhaps. Which can't be called GT3 anymore. It's a GT12, because Porsche said so.
Better than you think. Really
The old dogs and new tricks theme continues with the latest update on Jesse Crosse's
Escort RS rally car
. Why have one RWD fast Ford in a week when you could have two? He's back in competition with the Yellow Peril this weekend so we'll be sure to keep you updated on his progress.
PHTV continues apace with Episode 5 now live and more new videos uploaded. See here for PHer McSam's ups and downs with a £900 3 Series track project. For those with a preference for more exotic track toys, take a look at the guy regularly lapping his LaFerrari at the Nordschleife. Crazy, brilliant man!
As well as that, there's been a new £100K Garage, a very rare Jaguar saloon plucked from the classifieds and a chat with McLaren's CEO Mike Flewitt ahead of the Sports Series reveal. Not satisfied? See Shed's latest fancy, the Nissan Juke NISMO RS road test and why one member of the PH team has a secret longing for a big Citroen. More next week!
