On first acquaintance last year, the Vuhl 05 immediately impressed: it may not have been the most intense track car, but its quality, and performance stood out. It looked amazing, too.
Here is the Vuhl that should address any concerns of the 05 being a little soft, the 05RR. It's been revealed at you-know-where, and will run up the hill today driven by GP2 driver Jordan King.
It should be damn quick too, if the stats are anything to go by. The Ford 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine is now up to 385hp, 100hp more than the standard car. Combined with a six-speed sequential gearbox and a dry kerbweight dropped to 640kg (from 695kg), the 05 RR is capable of hitting 62mph in 2.7 seconds and 160mph.
But of course cars like this are not really about straight line performance. To make it even more rapid around a circuit, the RR has a quicker steering rack and a 50mm lower centre of gravity than the standard 05. It's also fitted as standard with Michelin Cup 2s, carbon fibre wheels and full carbon body panels. There's a revised aero package too, comprising a full width rear wing and a more prominent diffuser. Vuhl's Iker Echeverria says the car is "faster, more engaging and more aggressive." Certainly looks it!
As yet the 05RR doesn't have a confirmed price, but with the standard car at £60K this is likely to be around the £80,000 mark. More details to follow from the show!
