A relatively small but hugely dedicated cohort of PHers made the trip to North Wales this weekend to join us at our Llandudno Sunday Service, run in tandem with the Great Orme stage of Wales Rally GB. The cars looked fantastic lined up under the brightening skies along the promenade, with highlights including an Escort Mexico, an R8 GT and pretty much everything in between drawing attention from PHers and curious locals alike.
The PistonHeads church is a broad one!
Despite the precious metal on show, the morning's main attraction saw Nicky Grist and Derek Ringer host a thoroughly engaging talk on their experiences co-driving with Colin McRae throughout his illustrious career. Their entertaining and enlightening anecdotes were followed by a question and answer session, with conversation ranging from their first experiences of rallying, via the best way to relieve yourself at 100mph to how to improve modern F1 - wet tracks and handbrake turns, of course!
Those of us who had spent Saturday standing, drenched, in a North Walian forest were glad to see the rain continue to hold off. The plan had been to move on to the start of the penultimate stage of the rally, around the headland at Great Orme. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the Welsh weather had other plans and high winds meant spectators were not allowed on the stage. Any disappointment was soon dispelled as we watched the cars re-grouping in the town centre though, giving us a chance to see the drivers and their machines as more than just a gravel spitting blur. A selfie with Sebastien Ogier rounded the morning off just nicely.
A huge thank you to Nicky and Derek for their time, to Ian Berry from Wales Rally GB for all of his help organising the event, and of course to everyone who came along. See you next time!
