Senna was in Japan testing the McLaren-Honda F1 car in 1989 and invited to test the NSX and give his recommendations to the engineers at the R&D department. He relayed that the car was good but in his opinion, a little fragile. So, Honda's engineers went back and stiffened the chassis by 50 per cent, among other tweaks. Off the back of this a cult following was assured.
This leads us to our Reader's Car of the Week - an NA1 Honda NSX-R. Forming part of a three-car garage - a 'last 12' 2005 NA2 Coupe in the rare combo of Pearl White exterior with red leather and a 2001 NA1 pre-facelift Coupe it'd be safe to say our man really, really likes an NSX.
The changes creating the more hardcore R included lighter wheels, different suspension, brakes, steering, LSD components and more. It is very special indeed. The full list of changes over the standard NSX are in the thread with plenty of information. In true enthusiast fashion, he isn't one to hide his cars away from the public. Cars are meant to be driven and admired - with fewer than 300 NSXs currently registered in the UK, he is more than willing to spend some time showing it off to people in carparks and petrol stations.
A few days ago, the OP sourced a JDM NA2 Type R, meaning this NA1 will be on the market once again. Congratulations Neil-5ogx0, your Honda NSX-R is our Reader's Car of the Week.
