Well at least nobody can say they didn't see this coming. After many months of
testing images
and speculation, AMG boss Tobias Moers has confirmed that an AMG GT R will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Fast cars need a centre-exit exhaust, right?
The announcement came at the Geneva motor show, conveniently enough just before this fresh batch of spy pics emerged. According to
Motoring
, Moers said the car will be a "performance revolution" and deliver "dynamics that are better than an SLS Black on the race track".
Furthermore, the R is expected to be lighter than a regular GT S - by up to 100kg - and eventually be joined in the range by a Black Series. So more power and a lot less weight, or (presumably) a lot more power and a little less weight. Exciting times ahead for the AMG GT range then!
As for this latest raft of pictures, they show the GT R looking more production ready than ever before. New details include the centre-exit exhaust, fixed rear spoiler and diffuser; the front splitter could well be new as well. Looks pretty mean, no? Just the thing to rival a 911 R perhaps...
With a reveal date finally in sight, expect more information on the AMG GT R as June approaches. Just how much power will it have? Could AMG really take 100kg from the kerbweight? What will Nissan have to say about the name? Answers to follow as soon as possible!
