Last week Mercedes confirmed its
new C-Class Coupe
as one of the big hitters launching in a few weeks at the Frankfurt show. The looks certainly didn’t win everyone over and the fact it was announced with a range of four-cylinder petrols and diesels only underlined a lingering sense of disappointment.
Hopefully this will help. Because as we know there will also be an AMG version, which Mercedes is teasing here with this little video clip. It doesn’t show much, to be fair. But it confirms what we could probably have guessed, namely that it’ll have a twin-turbo V8 engine we’ll assume to be the same 4.0-litre unit as the saloon and estate versions. Whether it’ll be offered in both 476hp standard and 510hp ‘S’ tune we’ll have to see – the car in the vid is badged as an S so we’ll safely assume the full beans version will be available from launch. What else? Well, the car would appear to sound pretty fruity and be very willing to light up its rear tyres. Again, stuff we could probably have safely assumed would be high on the agenda.
Will some AMG muscle help fill out the standard C-Class Coupe’s lines? The jump-cuts make that hard to ascertain but expect more in the coming days. One thing’s for certain though - the BMW M4 and Lexus RC F are going to have to accept the new AMG is going to leave them looking seriously outgunned in the raw power stakes. Whether it’s the complete package will remain to be seen.
