Chinese Formula E contender NextEV has revealed its NIO global brand and intention to 'help users rediscover the joyful lifestyle of car ownership'. Alongside the unveiling in London, the much-anticipated EP9 hypercar was announced under the slogan 'the fastest electric car in the world'.
Powered by four inboard motors connected to four individual gearboxes, the car is able to put down one MegaWatt (1,360hp) and 4,671lb ft at the wheels. That in turn, equals a 0-124mph time of 7.1 seconds and a lap of the Nordschleife in 7min 5.120sec, beating the previous EV record of 7min 22sec. Another set of numbers that may be more interesting to manufacturers breaking into the EV market is a combined range of 427km and a battery charging time of 45 minutes. Two lithium batteries sit between the front and rear wheels, are indirectly water-cooled and changeable.
Taking knowledge from motorsport, the carbon composite bodywork and chassis are built to FIA LMP1 standards with motorsport inspired underfloor aero. A full-length diffuser, front adjustable splitter and an active rear wing with three positions enable the EP9 to produce double the downforce of an F1 car. Details on pricing as and when we get it!
