This weekend sees both the Silverstone Classic and Spa 24-Hour take place, so a great couple of days are in store for motorsport fans. Already the PH attention has been piqued at Silverstone with the debut of a
new Morgan
and Spa never fails to entertain. More on those next week!
As for the past seven days, there's been a track test of the new McLaren, another legend inaugurated into the PH Hero ranks and a look ahead to next month's Monterey motor week. Catch it all here!
The big news of this week is the
McLaren 675LT
first drive. There are road impressions to follow but already it has proved inspirational on circuit. Better than a 488? You'll have to read the story to find out! It was an easy choice for
Pic Of The Week
too because, well, who doesn't like to see supercars in lairy colours going sideways? More Longtail to follow soon....
Subaru announced that it was producing a special edition WRX STI NR4, only for competition use in Australia. Boo. But it turns out rally Subarus do still exist over here, thanks to the JRM cars. Expensive yes, but what a noise....
Talking of costly, Coys published its Blenheim Palace results; the £765,540 sale price for its Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is a UK record for a Daytona. Predictably enough the old Porsches were selling at silly money too...
So what to do if you fancy a classic Porsche without the expense? With those coveted models out of reach for many, RPM may have an answer with a 'retro' package for 996 Carreras. Not for the purists, but it's certainly different!
For very serious track day folk
No replacement and all that
To America, where two fast cars made the news that could hardly be more different in their methods for going very fast. Apparently Elon Musk feels insane acceleration isn't enough mode wasn't enough for the Model S; enter
'Ludicrous' mode
, dropping the 0-60mph time to 2.8 seconds. Representing V10s and manuals and downforce was the new
Dodge Viper ACR
. Now with 645hp, many kilos of downforce and an 'Extreme Aero' option, expect to see a certain lap time released soon...
And for when 645hp isn't enough, how about 805? That's what's on offer with the turbocharged and supercharged Dodge Challenger Hellcat X. Not an official Dodge product but pretty damn cool nonetheless. And it's a competition prize!
Back in a very sensible Europe (but with America firmly on the mind), BMW has teased two world premiere concept cars at Monterey. What could they possibly be? See also the return of the four-door RS4, a look at the three-wheeler market (the good ones!) and PH2's track lesson with a champion.
Spend too long in the forums when you should be working? Worry no more! In '
Thread of the day
' we aim to bring you the best bits of PH conversation straight to the homepage. From boring cars to supercars and plenty more besides, we're never short of a discussion point!
In a slightly left field PH test, the new slotless racing known 'Real FX' game has won over all who have tried it. Who doesn't like the sound of combining remote control cars, Scalextric and retro video games into one?
An unfortunate altercation for the M4 has kept it away from the office recently; more reason for a road trip when it returns!
A significant addition to the PH Hero this week, with the Impreza 22B finally welcomed. From the PH regular features, there's a fast(ish) Ford theme with a Mondeo ST220 Spotted and Cougar V6 Shed. Redressing the balance is a near-£500K supercharged Bentley...
And that's it! Keep an eye on PH social media for updates on Silverstone and Spa over the weekend with plenty more to follow next week.
