The grassroots 'run what ya brung' mentality of drag racing makes this most straightforward form of motorsport accessible to all. And means any old crate can line up for quarter-mile glory.
Saying that, what's the least appropriate car to take up a drag strip? It's a question posted by 320touring who starts the thread by saying he took his Octavia TDI to Crail strip near St Andrews the other day but says "mine was not the most odd car there." Having admitted he's got at taste for it he then invites PHers to suggest the weirdest thing they've ever seen in such a scenario.
Videos come thick and fast, Lugy putting forward his other half's dad, who drags an Astravan with - it's claimed - around 500hp. Then there's viscountdallara with his Volvo V70 diesel automatic that "smoked all comers (literally) with a leisurely time of 17.6 at 76mph!"
So what mad things have you seen on the dragstrip?
