AMG GT3
racing car isn't officially competing until 2016, but it was decided to enter a
VLN round
as part of the car's development. Y'know, bit of a shakedown, ensure it all works and moves. The car set pole. By five seconds.
Unfortunately Bernd Schneider's incredible 8:02 lap didn't become a race win - a wheel bearing problem meant the team finished four laps down in 52nd place. They did set the second fastest lap in the race though, and it will continue to compete in the VLN before 2016.
Then there's this, the latest prototype of what looks like an AMG GT Black Series. Yes, the car has been covered a fair bit already but, well, it's an incredibly exciting prospect and there are new things to discuss.
The front grille and bumper arrangement is now much different to the road car, clearly inspired by the wider, rounder version seen on the GT3. It also carries some enormous front flics ahead of the wheels - disguise can only hide so much!
At the back the diffuser is looking much more serious, the fixed wing is still in place and - look at this - a centre-exit exhaust. Very cool. Nothing shouts fast car like an exhaust out the middle.
It can't be long now before something official is confirmed by Mercedes with this much going on. Hopefully it's the "something fast" hinted at last week, and looks the perfect rival for the F-Type SVR too. Exciting times ahead. Could we have 6.2 dropped in AMG, just for old time's sake? It would be just like the racing car then. Please?
