Anybody who was at Goodwood Revival last weekend will have experienced both ends of the weather spectrum. Sunday was a glorious day for racing: hot, sunny and clear in the best late summer fashion. Indeed the RAC TT Celebration was perhaps the finest bit of motorsport we'll see all year.
Saturday was not hot, sunny or clear. It was miserable. The rain drove its way fiercely across Sussex, visibility was appalling and the temperature distinctly autumnal. They were bad conditions for driving a road car, leave alone a GT40..
Still, that's what Chris Ward did in the Whitsun Trophy last Saturday. This video recorded his efforts, the result quite frankly one of the most terrifying (and awe-inspiring) onboards you will ever see.
Ward's name is hopefully one you'll recognise, his handiwork having featured previously in the Rover SD1 and Jaguar C-Type videos. Here he needs every bit of that talent, the iconic Ford proving borderline vicious around the Goodwood motor circuit. It jinks sideways on the straights, wheelspins everywhere and oversteers at the merest hint of throttle. This with a terrible single wiper and a grid of other cars around as well!
It's masterful driving really, a video you can't help but watch several times and marvel at. Ward finished fourth in this car, setting the fastest lap on the way. Bloody good show sir. Let's pray for sunshine in 2017...
