Could be 1992, couldn't it? A sea of German touring cars, 190 Evos and E30 M3s almost as far as the eye can see. Actually this is an image from last year's Spa Race Festival, released as part of Mercedes' press material for the 2015 event.
This year's festival at Spa is significant for two reasons. It is now the Spa Youngtimer Festival, part of the German Youngtimer Trophy, opening up the grid to some different cars. And also because it marks 25 years of the 190E Evo II in the DTM, which is a pretty significant anniversary.
The car took 25 wins in the DTM, with Mercedes claiming 373hp at 7,200rpm and a 186mph top speed. This weekend at Spa it will be driven by Roland Asch, former DTM driver and now Mercedes Classic Ambassador. Should be a fairly excellent weekend!
