Say what you want about American manufacturers, they do know how to give a car an emotive name. Cobra, Viper and Mustang will spring immediately to mind, but now Dodge is resurrecting two more iconic nameplates: Charger Daytona and Challenger T/A.
Of course the cars won't be available in the UK and, no, they don't have the supercharged Hellcat V8, but there's more than enough to warrant interest. Because who doesn't love bright yellow muscle cars?
Both are available either with the 5.7-litre (375hp, 410lb ft) or 6.4-litre (485hp, 475lb ft) Hemi V8s, as well as the six-speed Tremec manual or eight-speed Torqueflite automatic. But it will be far tougher to choose between colours: Destroyer Grey or White Knuckle? Redline Red or Pitch Black? Contusion Blue or Maximum Steel?
Anyway, to specifics. The Challenger T/A comes as standard with the 5.7-litre Hemi, a NACA bonnet duct feeding a new SRT Hellcat air box, a bigger exhaust and wider forged aluminium wheels. It gets the Super Track Pak too, comprising lower suspension, Bilstein dampers, performance brake lines and Goodyear Eagle F1s.
For the full heritage look, each T/A will come with the satin black bonnet, roof and boot, Challenger body stripes and T/A badges. You can even get bonnet clips if you want. Sorry, hood pins.
Above the T/A there's a T/A Plus, adding leather and upgraded infotainment, then the 6.4-litre T/A 392 with the 'Air Catcher' headlights, bigger Brembo brakes and Pirelli tyres. It costs $43,995...
We're guessing this is Destroyer Grey
The Daytona Charger is distinguished by a SRT-inspired bodykit, a rear spoiler and Daytona graphics. You want people to know, don't you? It also gets the Super Track Pak and the forged wheels, plus an interior that includes 'Brazen Gold' stitching and a steering wheel "with performance contouring". Of more interest will probably be the revised 2.62 rear diff ratio for "improved acceleration and speed".
You can get a Charger Daytona for less than $40K ($39,890), with the 6.4-litre version offered at $44,995. Apparently it will run low 12-second quarter miles, so you probably do want that version. We'll take one in Green Go please Dodge!
