We all know the racing version of the new Ford GT will race at Le Mans next year to mark 50 years of the GT40's first win there. What has only be announced today is that the car's European race debut will be at Silverstone. Which is pretty cool.
You think it has an Ecoboost engine?
The Six Hours of Silverstone is the first round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship, where two GTs will compete in the GT-Endurance Pro Class. It will race Corvette C7.Rs, 911s, V8 Vantages and 458 Italias, while there's also an LMP1 and LMP2 race going on at the same time...
Raj Nair, Ford's VP for Global Product Development, is predictably very excited about getting the GT on track: "The same spirit that drove the innovation behind the first Ford GT still drives us as a company today. Let the racing begin!"
Alongside the World Endurance Championship, Ford will also campaign the GT in the American IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. It takes in Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, Austin and many more, with driver line-ups for both championships to be announced closer to the time; a busy first season for the new GT!
