In purchase order: Renault Clio 1.2 'Bebop! (which meant you got a sunroof), Peugeot 106 1.4 Roland Garros (half white leather and red seatbelts anyone?), Peugeot 106 XSI 1.4, VW Golf Mk 4 GT TDI, R53 Mini Cooper S, VW Golf GTI Mk 5, VW Golf R32 Mk5 Supercharged
A fast and capable family estate probably, and hopefully a classic 80s coupe of sorts to tinker with.
Range Rover 4.2 LSE
Cost: £20,850
Balance: £79,150
Why I chose it: "As a young five year-old lad, I recall my auntie pulling up our drive in one - the noise of the Rover V8, the air suspension and the smell of a hot engine after a long trip. Ever since I have been transfixed on them! With this being the LWB, you can comfortably stretch your legs and let the world go by; it has such class, a real go-anywhere vehicle, but probably need to quite frequently visit a petrol station. One of those cars which you can actually see the fuel gauge going down."
VW Golf Mk 4 R32 (supercharged)
"Not another Golf I hear you say! And another 4x4 choice... Well sadly my last one got written off when someone crashed into the back of me and all I can say is, a 360hp supercharged VR6 is a noise to experience! The pull you get is addictive, and confusing Mk7 Golf R and Audi S3/RS3 owners at is a giggle. The Mk4 is slowly increasing in value too."
BMW M5 Touring (E61)
Cost: £18,906
Balance: £50,294
Why I chose it: "I absolutely love the sound of a V10! I know you have to rev the nuts off it to make progress but the concept of this in estate form is very appealing. I recall one owner on here at a Sunday Service having to fit a dog cage in it to stop his pooch flaying around in the back! The colour on this will be like marmite, but I actually quite like it - it stands out from the usual boring silvers, blacks and blues."
TVR Griffith 500
"From the poster on my bedroom wall to hearing one rumble down the street, I've always been hooked. I love the shape too. It's my two-seater of choice: good old English barn door engineering, but just make sure the outriggers are done! This one looks to be in fine fettle and Fernhurst's reputation is second to none."
Peugeot 106 S1 Rallye
Cost: £5,850
Balance: £26,944
Why I chose it: "A slight flashback to my yoof here. I couldn't find a Rallye at the time so had to plump for the 1.4 XSI, but the fizzy 1.3 engine loves to rev out and so it would be my weapon of choice for an early morning Sunday blast for on country roads. The advert on this one doesn't give much away but it looks like a tidy example.
"Which leaves £26,944. I'm not greedy, this is all I need! The healthy reserves would be spent on a decent warranty for the M5, and perhaps a garage for the more fragile TVR, Range Rover and Rallye."
