While Peugeot - or rather 'Poogeot', as this is an American video - has enjoyed a degree of motorsport success again recently, the late 80s really was a golden period. World Rally Championships, Dakar victories and the record run at Pike Peak saw to that. Road cars were alright too...
This promotional film for Peugeot Sport in the USA has opened our eyes to another Peugeot motorsport success though: the 505. Yes, that lovely old barge of a saloon - Peugeot's last rear-drive production car, don't forget - turned out to be rather handy on America's race tracks. Who'd have thought?
To prove the point the video features some fantastic period footage of 505s duking it out on track in an SCCA season finale, with testimonies from good ol' boys with names like Walt, Victor and Clint. The 505 really did make quite the successful production touring car! And if you thought the Peugeot Sport colours looked good as stickers on cars, wait until you see the T-shirt and caps...
Finally, just when it seems the video is all done, there's additional footage from that iconic 1988 Pikes Peak run. With a helicopter. And who wouldn't want to see that?
