In amongst the supercars and the daft concepts, there are always a few normal cars at a motor show that can slip under the radar and really shouldn't. The Volvo XC90 Excellence - and yes, that really is its name - is one of those cars, making its European debut at Geneva.
Who wouldn't want to sit back here?
It's described as Volvo's most luxurious car yet, backing up that claim with extended leather, crystal glasses from Orrefors plus fully adjustable massage seats. And the fridge. And the cupholders that can be heated. Or cooled.
In case that isn't relaxing (or luxurious) enough, the XC90 Excellence comes with additional sound insulation as well as an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins stereo. The Excellence is only offered with the 410hp T8 hybrid powertrain, which should be sufficient to deal with the weight of the additional soundproofing.
Can the XC90 cut it as a luxury vehicle above simply being a posh family SUV? It'll be interesting to see the buyer response given how well established its rivals are. Volvo has launched this XC90 exclusively online for now, with physical cars due in US dealerships later this year. It doesn't appear to be set for UK sales, which seems a shame. But then European sales have been added after this was initially going to be for China only, so there's hope. Surely there are enough Range Rovers sold in the UK to warrant bringing the Excellence to the UK?
