This BMW 2 Series has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Ferrari 458 Italia. If that isn't of interest, PistonHeads is definitely the wrong site for you!
This 2 Series is in fact the AC Schnitzer ACL2, a one-off concept designed "as a technology platform for product development." So perhaps one day you can buy all the parts to make your own, but you can't have this one. Schnitzer suggests this car would be worth 150,000 euros at present. Don't be surprised if someone makes an offer over the coming days...
Essentially this car is a wider, lower, angrier BMW M235i with an M4 engine in. A tuned M4 engine at that. Hence the 570hp and 1,450kg that beats the 458's 570hp and 1,488kg. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six has been treated to an 'AC Schnitzer performance upgrade' plus a delimit, meaning it's now capable of 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, 0-125mph in 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 206mph. Yes, 206. All while accompanied by a "breathtaking acoustic performance" from the new sports exhaust.
Slowing the ACL down are carbon ceramic brakes measuring 400mm in diameter at the front and 380mm behind. Moreover, why those wheels may not be to all tastes (and that's being polite), they are at least forged and therefore light. They are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.
Look too how close the bodywork is to those tyres, hunkered down like a motorsport car. Suspension is by Schnitzer's height adjustable Clubsport set-up, tested on and around the Nurburgring. What, you didn't think we would get through a whole motor show without mention of it? The damping is adjustable too for bump and rebound, hopefully allaying any fears about that much power with BMW suspension that might not keep up.
Now there's no mistaking the ACL2 for a regular 2 Series, this car marked out by the wheelarch extensions (70mm at each wheelarch), a spoiler 250mm clear of the boot and the carbon front flics. Is it a bit much? Perhaps in green with red, but in a more subtle combo it could really work. Let's hope AC Schnitzer can make something similar in the near future for production. Because who wouldn't want to go scaring supercars in a 2 Series?
