It would be easily understandable if you're a little confused by the AMG GT range. So sat at the top is
GT R
regular GT S
entry-level GT
below that. Then for the Roadster there's a standard version (like the GT) alongside a
GT C
, which is more powerful than a GT and a GT S, with a wider track too. But it isn't as fast as a GT R. Got it? Good, because here's another one...
This is the GT C Edition 50 Coupe, caught for this first time ahead of a debut next year. If it mirrors the Roadster, this will use a 557hp version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, placing it between the S (510hp) and R (585hp). This car has the wider rear track too, noticeable here with the additional vents around the rear wheels.
Now if our spy snappers are to be believed, this car is in fact a production spec GT C Edition 50 rather than a development car. Note for example the Edition 50 badge on the back, the Panamericana front grille and, well, the fact that a man is taking detail shots of it. That would mean the matt black paint is standard too...
As this Edition 50 car marks half a century since AMG Motorenbau und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (AMG Engine Production and Development Ltd) was founded in 1967, this very special AMG GT must appear at some point in 2017. There are rumours it may appear at Detroit as part of a range facelift, but Geneva would tie in with AMG's European foundations better. There may well be another few versions announced even before then! More news as we have it.
