It could very easily be argued that the Mercedes-Benz
G500 'squared'
doesn't want for visual impact. With portal axles for ground clearance, 22-inch wheels and a launch colour more yellow than a lemon coloured in with a highlighter, you won't miss the G500 even if you wanted to.
If there isn't quite enough blue outside
But where good taste ends is usually where Mansory begins, and that's certainly the case here. Forget quite nicely enhanced Evoras and the like; this is Mansory at full-fat, unabashed and slightly absurd best (if that's the right word), and to hell with the consequences.
To that end the latest Mansory G-Wagen features all carbon panels, left unpainted on the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler. Those bits that are painted are in a vivid sky blue, which is certainly bold. Also note - if you haven't already - the new wing intakes, the headlights and the redesigned rear panels.
Under that carbon bonnet is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as standard, enhanced with the 'Mansory Powerbox' and a sports exhaust for an extra 63hp (now 485) and 73lb ft for a total of 523lb ft. You suspect it might make a fair old din out of those side exit pipes too...
More power, more carbon, more everything
Inside the Mansory squared you'll find a carbon clad wheel (but of course), new leather piped in the exterior colour and a wealth of logos if you have, for some unfathomable reason, forgotten what you're driving. All this is accessed by a step that automatically drops down when the door is opened - that's the modestly titled 'stairway to heaven'. Classy.
Should you be sufficiently stinking rich, Mansory is taking orders on the G500 squared now. But if you can't wait, the 'for sale' section on the Mansory site features a full 6x6 G-Class, in black with 17,000km. The price? 920,000 euros...
