It's fair to say that cars like the
BMW M4 Convertible
and Audi RS5 Cabriolet don't enjoy the best reputation on PistonHeads. Too heavy, too blunt, a bit too flashy. But it's indicative of the their popularity that Mercedes is now in on the act, with these pictures previewing an
AMG-C63
You can't disguise those exhausts from us!
Having already seen the standard C-Class cab testing
earlier this year
, the usual raft of AMG upgrades have been introduced to mark the 63 out. See the quad exhausts, bigger wheels and tyres plus lower, angrier front bumper. Like coupe, saloon and estate, expect the C63 cabrio to be offered as a regular model with 476hp and a 510hp S.
What's unknown at present is whether the C-Class Cabriolet will have a fabric roof or folding hard top. From here it looks to be the latter but that could of course be clever disguise. The M4 has a folding hard top, the RS5 a canvas roof so there isn't yet an established preference in the class.
As for an official launch, if the convertible followed the saloon (Paris, September 2014) and the coupe (Frankfurt, September 2015), then it should be revealed at next year's Paris show. But a September debut would leave little no opportunity to enjoy the summer sun, so don't be surprised if it rumbles into Geneva next March...
