Such is the excitement around packing a V8 into a small(ish) saloon and estate that the launch of the
Mercedes-AMG C63
coupe is arguably less exciting than the four-door and wagon. Funny how these things work. Still, this is PH and pictures of a 500hp AMG coupe are guaranteed to brighten a Tuesday morning.
Just what are those rear wheels?
Captured at the Nurburgring (where else?), this is the first look at the two-door AMG C63. What can be viewed beneath the disguise at present is much as you would expect: more aggressive bumpers, quad exhausts and a bit more muscle round the haunches. There are, however, some very strange wheels on the back of this test car. The fronts are the 19-inch rims from the AMG S but the rears are entirely unfamiliar. Mercedes geeks, your knowledge will be valuable now! Is this a secret engineer's drift spec? Wide and grippy on the front, small and slippy behind. Probably not, but it's a nice idea.
Both 'regular' C63 and S powertrains will surely be carried over directly from the saloon and estate, although the coupe will probably have a little less weight to haul around. Should be a good basis for a Black Series too...
Mercedes hasn't yet officially confirmed the C63 coupe so it's a little way from production yet, next year at the earliest. But at least it won't arrive three years after the saloon as in the last generation! More details as they're available.
